Chipotle sponsored a free screening of Robert Kenner’s Food, Inc. at the Beekman Theater in NYC as part of a nationwide initiative. NESRI partner the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) organized information tables at all screenings in theatres throughout the country to make sure audiences learn a little more about Chipotle’s labor practices in the Florida tomato industry.  Recently, Food, Inc. director Robert Kenner, together with co-producer/narrator Eric Schlosser, signed an open letter to Chipotle urging the restaurant chain to “work with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers as a true partner in the protection of farmworkers rights.”  At the screening in NYC, NESRI staff and interns, together with other friends of CIW , handed out literature on the issue and copies of the open letter to Chipotle CEO Mr. Steve Ells, and also gathered signatures for the CIW’s campaign to address the human rights crisis faced by Florida farmworkers.
