NESRI Supports AGFE Fact Finding Mission on NOLA Housing Crisis

Nesri Supports AGFE Fact Finding Mission

In a victory for NESRI’s Human Right to Housing Program and its partner May Day New Orleans the Advisory Group on Forced Evictions will be conducting a Fact Finding Mission to New Orleans during the last week of July.  The advisors will be investigating infringements of people’s human right to housing through the forced eviction of thousands of residents as part of the city’s ongoing post Hurricane Katrina redevelopment.

The investigation will be the third visit by an international authority to New Orleans in the past three years, demonstrating continuing concerns about the approach the city is taking toward housing and redevelopment.  The Advisory Group will travel to affected communities across the city, attend a Town Hall Meeting where residents will share their experiences of forced eviction and their vision for a rebuilding process, and meet with local and federal government officials to discuss their findings.
