Join the May Day “Healthcare is a Human Right” Rally in Montpelier, Vermont
Thousands of Vermonters from across the state will gather at the Statehouse lawn on Saturday, May 1, for the "Healthcare Is A Human Right" Rally. The Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign was launched in 2008 by NESRI Partner Vermont Workers’ Center to build a grassroots network across the state that is strong enough to change what’s "politically possible" in health care reform. The Campaign has met with recent success with the passage of the "Universal Health Care" Bill (S.88), a rights-based health reform bill that passed the Vermont Senate 28-2 on April 7th and the Vermont House of Representatives 92-41 on April 23rd. The bill calls for the hiring of consultants to design three universal health care models. One of these three must be a single payer system that is publicly financed and decoupled from employment. All three models must meet the human right to health principles. View the press release here.
