Donald Berwick, President Obama’s nominee to run the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) – a crucial job that’s been vacant since Obama came into office – has run into conservative media demagoguery and opposition by Republican Senators. The right-wing blogosphere discovered a speech Berwick gave on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Britain’s National Health Service, in which he supports the NHS as a way to realize the human right to health care.
