Vermont Newspaper Calls on Governor to “Do No Harm”

An editorial in the Sunday edition of the Barre and Montpelier Times Argus called upon Vermont Governor James Douglas to sign into law, or at least allow to become law, the recent health reform legislation that was passed by both chambers of the Vermont Legislature. If the legislation becomes law the State would be required to create plans for establishing a universal health care system based on human rights principles. The editorial cites “the extraordinary grass-roots campaign spearheaded by the Vermont Workers’ Center.” According to the article, NESRI partner the Workers’ Center’s “Healthcare is a Human Right Campaign” has “put a human face on injustice” and “created momentum on health care not seen before.” Read a recent post entitled “A Single-Payer Laboratory in Vermont” on The Nation’s blog.
