Schoolkids’ Suspensions Through the Roof: Expert Says 40% Rise is ‘Major Crisis’ in Discipline
Suspensions at city schools – for everything from sassing a teacher to "aggressive" fighting – have soared 40% since 2006, the Daily News has learned.
While the city doled out just under 52,000 suspensions in 2005-06, the number has jumped to more than 72,000 through June 24 of this past school year even as the number of students declined slightly, Education Department officials said.
