United Workers Drops a Flurry of Fair Development Letters
Last Saturday, a flurry of yellow letters floated down on holiday shoppers at the Gallery Mall across from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Although General Growth Properties–the mall’s owner–still fails to dialogue with United Workers about the ways that mall working conditions that fail to meet human rights standards, shoppers got the message as United Workers chanted, "What do we want!? Human Rights! When do want it!? Now!” and released black and yellow balloons.
Two years ago, United Workers sent General Growth Properties a letter confronting them about working conditions that fail to meet human rights standards. GGP has still failed to meet with United Workers to discuss working conditions and meet workers’ demands. United Workers is now ramping up its campaign to pressure GGP into a dialogue and is planning more letter drops across Baltimore.
