BURLINGTON, Vt. –  The governor plans to have his plan to pay for single-payer health care next month. But the Vermont Workers’ Center has released its own plan.

The group says it would like to see all funding for Vermonters’ health care raised through state taxes, and the elimination of all out-of-pocket medical costs. The center says the state should institute a wealth tax scrapping preferential rates for capital gains and revamping corporate taxation. Advocates say the issue is fairness.

“Right now we’re spending a ton of money on health care, we’re spending enough to actually pay for a system the covers everyone, and so this is a proposal for how to raise that money in an equitable way for the new system that we’re building Green Mountain Care,” said James Haslam, executive director of the Vermont Workers’ Center.   […]
