Event details (12)

We are so honored to celebrate Andrea Ortiz, DSC-NY’s Membership and Campaigns Director, who was awarded a Public Advocate Award from the Office of the NYC Public Advocate – Jumaane D. Williams at their Women’s History Month celebration last Tuesday, March 25! Andrea was recognized for her work protecting immigrant students, expanding restorative justice, critical education funding, and uplifting her community.

Just last month, Andrea, representing DSC-NY, testified at the NYC 2026 preliminary budget hearing, calling on “New York City Elected Officials to expand restorative justice and mental health services including investing 80,000,000 in hiring school based restorative justice coordinators in 500 schools, protecting protecting critical programs currently funded with expiring city dollars, redirecting money away from school policing [and] protect[ing] immigrant students and families from president Trump’s mass detention and deportation plan”.
