Day 4 of the Dignity in Schools Campaign’s (DSC) National Week of Action highlights pushout policies specifically regarding LGBTQ students. More than 8 out of 10 LGBTQ youth report being verbally harassed about their sexual orientation at school, and 6 out of 10 report feeling unsafe at school. Although lawmakers have responded to bullying in schools, they have relied on punitive, zero-tolerance approaches, like suspensions and expulsions, that fail prevent or address bullying behavior and also fail to prevent the high numbers of LGBTQ youth being led out of the education system.
