Using Federal School Discipline Guidance in Your Local Work
On January 8, 2014, the federal Departments of Education and Justice released “School Climate and Discipline Guidance” to school districts. The Guidance lays out civil rights obligations related to school discipline and best practices for reducing disparities and implementing positive approaches to discipline.
In a webinar held on January 17, 2014, the Dignity in Schools Campaign reviewed the content of the federal guidance and discussed strategies for how local youth, parent, teacher and advocacy organizations can use the guidance to support their work with school districts and other policy-makers in their communities.
The webinar was co-sponsored by the Dignity in Schools Campaign, NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc., Advancement Project and Alliance for Educational Justice.
This document was produced for the webinar.
