Andrea Ortiz
DSC-NY Membership and Campaigns Director
Prior to joining DSC-NY, Andrea served as the Senior Manager of Education Policy at the New York Immigration Coalition, where she led coalitions and campaigns to advance equity and access for newcomer immigrant youth and Multilingual Learners in New York public schools. She is a committed advocate with over twelve years of experience organizing with BIPOC and undocumented youth, families, and allies. Before moving to New York, she led a high-school-based program in Austin, Texas that offered youth a constructive alternative to punitive disciplinary actions with trauma-informed and restorative practices. She is passionate about ending the criminalization and detention of communities of color and advancing educational campaigns that bring joy and re-energize our communities. She holds an M.A. in education policy with a specialization in law from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a B.A. in philosophy and gender studies from New College of Florida
