Kavitha Mediratta

Kavitha Mediratta is Chief Strategy Advisor for Equity Initiatives and Human Capital Development at The Atlantic Philanthropies. She served previously as head of Atlantic’s racial equity programs, and led its strategic grantmaking to address the racially-biased effects of zero tolerance school disciplinary policies on children’s educational attainment.

Prior to Atlantic, Ms. Mediratta was a program officer at the New York Community Trust. Before joining The Trust, she directed youth organizing and community organizing research programs at Brown University’s Annenberg Institute for School Reform and New York University.

She has authored numerous publications, including Community Organizing for Stronger Schools: Strategies and Successes by Harvard Education Press. Ms. Mediratta has received several awards for her work, including the prestigious Warren Weaver fellowship at the Rockefeller Foundation and the Aspen Institute’s non-profit research fellowship. She has taught in elementary and middle public and private schools in the U.S. and India.

Ms. Mediratta has a B.A. from Amherst College, a Masters of Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a PhD in urban education from New York University.
