Campaign to Restore National Housing Rights Wins Field Hearings in New Orleans

In a victory for the Campaign to Restore National Housing Rights and Mayday New Orleans the Congressional Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity has concluded two days of field hearings in New Orleans. Yesterday’s hearing focused on the Road Home Program.  Today’s hearing focused on the demolition of the “Big 4” public housing projects.  The Campaign, composed of local and national housing rights advocates, has been meeting with Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ office to discuss the importance of conducting congressional field hearings in select cities to hear directly from residents about the impact that failed federal housing policies have had on their lives, and to discuss viable solutions to this crisis.  Thus far, hearings have been held in Los Angeles, New York City and New Orleans.
