CIW Walk for Farmworker Justice! Vote for Publix as Scrooge of the Year!

CIW Walk for Farmworker Justice

As part of the Alliance for Fair Food, NESRI supported the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) largest Publix action of the year in Lakeland, Florida, where Publix’s headquarters are located. On December 6, over 500 CIW members and supporters from all over the country gathered in front of a local Publix store, where hundreds marched in a picket line and others held banners for passing traffic, accompanied by musicians.  The group then marched through town to a local city park for a rally, where religious leaders and CIW members spoke, urging Publix to stop making excuses, to admit that there is no fair market price for slavery, to stop purchasing from tomato growers whose farms use slave labor, and to join other major retail food corporations in working with the CIW to raise wages and improve working conditions.  See a photo report of the action.
